Introduction
The Saxony-Anhalt edition of the German-Qatar Forum took place on 16 September 2026 at 10:00 am at the State-Approved Foundation College Halle-Merseburg (SKHM) in Halle (Saale). It was organised by the German-Qatar Institute (GQI).
H.E. Oliver Owcza, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Qatar, opened with a general introduction to Qatar's current situation – political, economic and in research – and to the state of cooperation between Germany and Qatar.
With regard to Saxony-Anhalt, it became clear that relations between the state and Qatar are still limited: so far, there is hardly any significant cooperation.

Results
Halle's Lord Mayor, Dr. Alexander Vogt, asked about concrete opportunities for economic cooperation: investment from Qatar, organising a business trip to Qatar and the right contacts on the ground.
State Secretary Dr. Jürgen Ude welcomed the fact that Ming Cheng had initiated the Forum through GQI. He recommended involving the chambers of industry and commerce – and thus companies – in future.
Prof. Dr. Doreén Pick, Vice-Rector of Merseburg University of Applied Sciences, explored possible forms of higher-education and research cooperation with Qatar. She learned about international universities based in Education City and about Qatar University, and showed great interest.
Follow-up
GQI will organise further editions of the German-Qatar Forum, gather the information needed, build contacts in Doha and bring together relevant decision-makers from both countries.
